June 2011: 30-Day Public Comment Period on the Draft Regional Transportation Plan Begins Today
The SAFETEA-LU (Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users) is the most recent law establishing federal transportation policy and funding authorizations. In conformance with this law the Gainesville-Hall Metropolitan Planning Organization (GHMPO) has developed the draft 2040 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) to provide direction on issues involving transportation needs and to identify a list of fiscally constrained transportation projects over the next 29 years. The draft 2012-2017 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) was developed to provide information on multi-modal transportation projects over the next six years. Both of these documents require a minimum public comment period of 30 days before official adoption. The formal 30-day public comment period begins on June 14, 2011 and runs through July 13, 2011.
A hardcopy of the document is available at the GHMPO offices located in the Development Services Center at 440 Prior Street, S.E., Gainesville, Georgia. Official adoption of the 2040 MTP and the 2012-2017 TIP will be on the agenda of the GHMPO Policy Committee at their regular meeting on August 9, 2011.
