May 2014: GHMPO Planning Area Boundary Has Expanded

The GHMPO Policy Committee adopted the expansion of the GHMPO planning area boundary on May 13, 2014. The 2010 U.S. Census determined the urbanized areas (UZA) that have a population concentration of 1,000 people per square mile and, thus, must become a part of a metropolitan planning organization in order to receive federal aid for transportation planning purposes. The western UZA of Jackson County, including the Town of Braselton, opted to join the GHMPO and will have representatives in all GHMPO standing committees. The Georgia Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration have reviewed the amended boundary with Governor Nathan Deal approving the boundary change on April 3, 2014.
