Proposed Project Description:
The proposed project would create a new diamond interchange (Exit 14) approximately 3/4 of a mile north of the SR 13/Falcon Parkway crossover. A new Industrial Connector Road (Martin Road Extension) would connect H.F. Reed Industrial Parkway between Thurmon Tanner Parkway at the west end of the project and Martin Road at SR 13/Falcon parkway at the east end of the project. Martin Road Extension would be a four-lane divided roadway with a variable width (24' to 32') raised median and 16-foot shoulders, which would include 5-foot ADA compliant sidewalks, with curb and gutter. Martin Road Extension would cross over I-985 and would be approximately 0.72 mile in length.
Project limits would include approximately 7,500 feet along I-985 for entrance and exit ramps, approximately 1,500 feet north and south of the SR 13/Falcon Parkway at Martin Road intersection, approximately 1,500 feet along Thurmon Tanner Parkway, and approximately 500 feet along Martin Road. No improvements on I-985 are planned under this project.
Project Status: Right-of-way acquisition in 2016.
Utilities and construction in 2017. Behind schedule due to funding and environmental approval.
